Jesus our Joy

More than likely, you’ve never made the statement, “I have too much joy!”

That’s like having too much sugar or too much free time — you can never have too much joy!

However, you may find yourself on the other end of the joy spectrum. You may desire more joy in your life, yet you aren’t sure how to get it.

Do you know where true joy comes from?

You won’t find it wrapped underneath the Christmas tree, and it won’t be parked in the driveway. You don’t marry into it, and it certainly doesn’t come with the next pay raise.

There’s an unlimited amount of places joy does not come from, so where do we find joy?

One of the most well known and popular Christmas songs is Joy to the World. You’ve sung it countless times!!

But let’s pause and think about what the song actually means. Joy to the world, the Lord has come! Did you see the keyword? It’s the word “to.”

Joy TO the world. Or put another way, Joy = Jesus!

Jesus brought joy with Him when He came to the world. Further, Jesus doesn’t just bring joy, but Jesus is joy!

Remember what the angels told the shepherd on that silent night?

“Do not be afraid; for behold, I bring you good news of great joy which will be for all the people;

Luke 2:10 (NIV)

The angels brought good news of great joy. They were bringing the good news that Jesus had come into the world. Joy to the world.

So, where do we find true, lasting, overflowing joy? We find it in Jesus Christ. He is our joy.

If you have Jesus, you have joy! Don’t let the world rob you of what Jesus has already given you.

As the popular song continues, “let every heart prepare Him room.”

Have you prepared a place for Jesus in your heart? Are you living with the joy He brings or the misery the world offers? Let Jesus be your joy this Christmas season and beyond.
