Sacrifice to Give – Give to Be Generous

When I think about giving, I have to admit that the first thing I think of is of what’s being given. But, as I’ve learned, you should also appreciate the cost to the giver.

Jesus did not say “whoever believes in me will receive the blessings of the fullness of God” but “whoever believes in me the Spirit will flow from within him.” His purpose is not in the development of man but to make a man to be exactly like Him. Jesus was and is the ultimate example of self-sacrifice. His desire was to follow the Father’s will and the Father’s will was to give of Himself for us through His son. This teaching extends to all areas of our life not just our spiritual-self. Self-sacrifice should also manifest through our physical-self in how we give – how we share.

1 Timothy 6:17-19-Teach those who are rich in this world not to be proud and not to trust in their money, which is so unreliable. Their trust should be in God, who richly gives us all we need for our enjoyment. Tell them to use their money to do good. They should be rich in good works and generous to those in need, always being ready to share with others. By doing this they will be storing up their treasure as a good foundation for the future so that they may experience true life.

Generosity has many ways to be measured—at least in terms of our society. It’s measured by money, objects, time, people’s perception, publicity, and sometimes even in anonymity.

It’s defined this way in Wikipedia:

Generosityis the habit of giving freely without coercion. Often equated with charity as a virtue, generosity is widely accepted in society as a desirable trait. Generosity should reflect the individual’s passion to help others.

We need to understand how in God’s eyes that giving thanks, giving gifts, being generous, and doing all of these things sacrificially – are keys to knowing God, loving God, and loving people. We are to live the mission and purpose in our lives faithfully and sacrificially. This is exactly what the vision and mission of Antioch Georgetown is in Georgetown, Texas.

We as Antioch Georgetown are to be love to all.

1 Corinthians 13:7- Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance.
