My Journey to Georgetown – Alex Stringer

My name is Alex Stringer, and my family and I have been at Antioch Conway since I was a little girl. After graduating from the University of Arkansas with a degree in biology, I moved back home and made plans to go to school at UAMS to further my career in the health field. My journey to Georgetown began when God shut this door and many others in my life throughout this last year that I found myself trying to figure things out on my own. Finally, I decided to give up that control I held onto so tightly and draw closer to him.

The idea of going to Georgetown was something that kept entering my mind, but I didn’t feel like it was the type of ministry God would ever call ME to do. Looking back, God had planted the seed, and after that, every song on the radio, every sermon on Sunday, and every morning devotional seemed to scream”GEORGETOWN!” Over the course of about three months, I continuously prayed God would make it very clear that going to Georgetown was part of his plan for my life, because, let’s face it, I am as stubborn as they come. I finally decided to go and talk to Andy about my interest in Georgetown and what I was struggling with in making the decision.

That night after talking with Andy, I prayed God would send some reassurance my way that I would be following his will by going and not just for myself. The very next morning I was doing my devotional, which included a prayer at the end that tied into the study for the day, and the prayer said, “Be diligent. The fields are ripe, but the workers are few. Lord, lead me to the fields, and make me a disciplined servant for you.” That morning I got into my car, drove straight to Andy’s office, and the rest is history.

I was so overwhelmed by God’s presence that I knew I had made the right decision that was going to transform me in more ways than one. God is so good, and he is at work in so many lives. He equips those he calls and is capable of doing the unimaginable if you just have a little faith! I cannot wait to see how God is going to use this launch team to bring others to know him.

“We know that God is always at work for the good of everyone who loves him. They are the ones God has chosen for his purpose, and he has always known who his chosen ones would be” (Romans 8:28-29).
