Welcome to week 42 of Weekly Word! We are so glad you are here as we study through the books of Colossians and Romans.
As we walk through our sermon series, So That, our weekly readings, devotionals, and reflection questions will ground us in the supreme sufficiency of Jesus and the power of the gospel, so that His grace transforms our lives from the inside out.
Below, you’ll find this week’s readings, a short devotional, and reflection questions for your own time with the Lord or discussion with your community.

- Colossians 3:18–4:1
Devotional:
Readings: Romans 9 & 10, Colossians 3:18–4:1
In Romans 9 and 10, Paul lets us feel the raw weight of his heart for those who are far from God. He begins with deep sorrow and unceasing anguish for his own people who have missed Christ, reminding us that salvation is grounded entirely in God’s sovereign mercy, not human effort or heritage. Yet in chapter 10, Paul bridges God’s sovereignty with our urgent human responsibility: God’s saving grace is freely offered to everyone who calls on the name of the Lord! But how can they call on Him if they haven’t believed, and how can they believe if they haven’t heard? The gospel message requires a herald, giving us a holy compulsion to share the good news.
Then, as we turn to Colossians 3:18–4:1, Paul shows us that the primary mission field for this gospel transformation starts right under our own roofs and in our daily work. He addresses wives, husbands, children, fathers, workers, and leaders—showing that every human relationship and daily role is meant to reflect the lordship of Jesus. Whether in marriage, parenting, or our daily assignments, we are called to act out of reverence for Christ. We don’t serve simply to please human bosses or earthly expectations; we serve because we are ultimately serving Christ, who promises an eternal reward!
Living out the gospel in our homes and workplaces isn’t just about good ethics—it is how we make the beauty of Christ visible to a watching world! May the Holy Spirit fill us with fresh zeal this week to honor Him in our daily routines and boldly share the hope we have in Jesus.
Reflection Questions:
- How does knowing that you are ultimately “serving the Lord Christ” change your attitude toward a mundane task, difficult relationship, or work responsibility this week?
- In Romans 10:14–15, Paul highlights the necessity of sharing the gospel so others can hear and believe. Who in your everyday sphere of life (home, neighborhood, or workplace) needs to hear the good news, and how can you pray for an open door to share it with them?
