Advent Day 2: Wonderful Counselor (Colossians 2:2-3)

Devotion by Nik Chanda

I want their hearts to be encouraged and joined together in love, so that they may have all the riches of complete understanding and have the knowledge of God’s mystery—Christ. In him are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge. (Colossians 2:2-3)

Paul’s desire for the believers in Colossae and the surrounding region wasn’t simply that they get along—it was that their hearts be “encouraged and joined together in love.” He reveals that something powerful happens when Christ’s people live in unity: the full riches of understanding begin to unfold. Together, we start to see more of who Jesus truly is—”in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.”

Our culture often tells us to search for wisdom alone—in books, podcasts, or quiet moments of reflection. But Paul points us somewhere richer: to Christ revealed among His people. Don’t pull away from the diversity of Christ’s body—it’s the prism through which His light is revealed, where we both experience the richness of His wisdom and add our own color to the reflection.

Our Wonderful Counselor doesn’t only speak to us; He speaks through His body—through love, humility, and the shared pursuit of truth. When our hearts are united in Him, the mystery opens wide: every treasure of wisdom and knowledge is found in Jesus.

Reflect:

– Where do you most often look for wisdom?

– How might Christ, the Wonderful Counselor, be inviting you to discover wisdom through His presence and His people?

Pray:

God, thank you for being the source of all wisdom. Your word says that if I lack wisdom, I can come to you and you will grant it to me. Today, I ask you to impart wisdom to me, and help me to seek your wisdom in all that I do, say, and think. In Jesus’s name, amen.
