Weekly Word | Week 17 | April 27-May 1

Welcome to week 17 and of Weekly Word!

We are so excited to journey together through a new book of the Bible—the Book of Ephesians! As we read and focus on the Armor of God over the next six weeks, we pray that these weekly readings continue to stir your heart as you abide in Christ!

Below, you’ll find your readings for this week, along with discussion questions and a short devotional for you to enjoy at the end of the week.

This week, we will focus on the first part of God’s armor: the Belt of Truth!

Readings:

  • Ephesians 1
  • Ephesians 6:10-14
  • Judges 6

Devotional:

Readings: Ephesians 1 | Ephesians 6:10-14 | Judges 6

Ephesians 1 reminds us that we are chosen, adopted, and sealed by the Father’s love. It’s a foundational truth, yet we often live like Gideon, hiding in a winepress, feeling small and inadequate.

As we read in Ephesians 6:14, the Belt of Truth is our first line of defense; it holds all our other armor in place. When you feel fear or inadequacy, remember that God’s Word—His truth—is the final word on your identity and emotions. We don’t find our value in our performance, but in God’s everlasting love and sovereignty. May that comfort your heart as you meditate on that truth today!

Discussion Questions:

  • Which promise of God about your identity from Ephesians 1 do you need to believe more deeply this week?
  • Where have you been letting your feelings dictate your reality instead of God’s truth?
  • Gideon was hiding from his circumstances; in what area of life might you be hiding, rather than trusting God’s call?

Dig Deeper

Was the belt the most important piece of armor for the Roman soldier? It was!

Watch this sermon from Antioch’s 2022 sermon series, “Resistible,” and let’s find out why and what it means to put on the belt of truth.

We are praying for you as you dig into God’s Word this week!
