Devotion by Angela Asher
“Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.” (Romans 5:1)
When you picture peace, what do you think of? Maybe it is sitting on the front porch with a cup of coffee or relaxing on the beach as the waves roll in. Those times are peaceful and can bring a sense of peace, but the peace Paul is describing is something far deeper. It is an eternal, everlasting, unshakable peace we receive through Jesus, the true Prince of Peace.
The Scripture tells us that because of Jesus, we now stand in a restored relationship with God. It’s a peace secured by Christ’s finished work on the cross. He stepped into our brokenness and became the bridge between God and us, offering reconciliation where distance once was.
When we are overwhelmed with the chaos of life, when fear starts to come in, or when we don’t know what to do next, we can hold tightly to this truth, that we are already at peace with God—something this world could never give us. Christ doesn’t just give us peace; He is Peace—the Prince of Peace. Let us rest in that truth today!
Reflect:
– What is one way you can pause today and remind yourself of the truth that Christ himself is your peace?
– How can you allow that peace to remain in the midst of stress or fear?
Pray:
Heavenly Father, I pray over the person reading this devotion today. I pray that as they reflect on their day, week, or month, your everlasting peace just overwhelms them. God, I pray they keep this reminder with them as the days are to come when things are just not going right. That it is through Jesus we have access to this peace! Help our faith not to be wavering in the midst of fear or chaos, but to cling to your promises. In your Holy Son’s name we pray, Amen!
