Devotion by Abraham Magdaleno
“It is from him that you are in Christ Jesus, who became wisdom from God for us—our righteousness, sanctification, and redemption—. . .” (1 Corinthians 1:30)
Advent reminds us that Jesus didn’t simply bring God’s wisdom—He is God’s wisdom. When Isaiah called the coming Messiah the “Wonderful Counselor,” he wasn’t describing a distant advisor, but a Savior whose insight surpasses human understanding and whose guidance is always perfect.
Paul echoes that truth in 1 Corinthians 1:30: Christ Himself has become “wisdom from God” for us. That means we don’t have to stumble through life relying on our limited perspective. The Wonderful Counselor steps into our confusion with divine clarity.
I think back to a season when I was at a crossroads—facing decisions about my calling, ministry, and identity. I wanted a detailed plan, but Jesus offered Himself. In prayer, scripture, and quiet moments, His counsel didn’t come as a blueprint but as a simple, repeated invitation: “Just keep showing up.”
Show up in obedience. Show up in trust. Show up for the next faithful step. I didn’t realize it then, but that steady reminder was His wisdom guiding me—strengthening my heart when my own plans felt uncertain.
During Advent, we remember that the Wonderful Counselor has already come, and He still speaks. His wisdom is not locked in the past; it’s alive, personal, and available today.
Reflect:
– What step of obedience is Jesus asking you to show up for today?
– How can you make space to hear the Wonderful Counselor’s voice this Advent?
Pray:
Jesus, Wonderful Counselor, help me to quiet my heart so I can hear Your wisdom above my own. Teach me to keep showing up daily, faithfully, and expectantly, so I may follow Your guidance with a steady and surrendered heart. Amen.
