Well, it’s official…I’m moving to Georgetown, Texas. To some of you this doesn’t come as a surprise, because I asked you to pray for me as I was making this decision or came to you for advice. Others are asking why, what’s in Georgetown? Well, let me tell you how amazing our God is and how perfect his timing is in orchestrating a plan for our lives. So here’s my journey to Georgetown…
For those of you who don’t know me, I’m Sidney Meriweather. I was born and raised in Conway, Arkansas. I’ll graduate from Ouachita Baptist University in May 2017 with a degree in Marketing and Mass Communications. This past summer I had the opportunity to work at Daniel Springs Baptist Camp, and as the Lord would have it Andy Comer was the camp pastor during our first week. We had met briefly a few months earlier, and I knew about the plans to plant a church in Georgetown. The idea had crossed my mind that joining a church plant might be something I’d be interested in after graduation, but I had never entertained the thought seriously.
When I first greeted Andy at camp, he asked if I’d be interested in hearing more about Georgetown, and I said of course, still not fully thinking about joining myself. After our worship service on Wednesday night he pulled me aside and asked if we could go talk. After our conversation I was excited about the possibility of being a part of the Georgetown launch team, but I was hesitant and wanted to cover the decision in prayer. After two months of prayer and seeking advice from others, I knew that God was calling me to join the launch team.
As I reflect over the last few years of my life it’s evident that God was preparing me for a time such as this. Between mission trips to Romania and Ukraine, studying abroad in Austria, working at two different camps for three summers, and everything in between God was equipping me. He was preparing me to be able to be uncomfortable, in a new surrounding, with new people, and still build relationships. I’ve held roles in children’s ministries, as a camp counselor, as a coordinator, and an event planner. Most importantly he’s given me community, a body of believers who will stand by me as I make my way to Georgetown. For all of life’s ups and downs that have led me here I’m thankful.
Now that the decision has been made I have a lot of questions. Where will I live? Where will I work? But bigger than my questions is the peace. A peace that passes all understanding and an assurance that comes in knowing that I’m being obedient to God’s call. So I’m moving to Georgetown, Texas. I’m excited and nervous and full of anticipation. I would ask that you join me and the launch team in praying for this move.
