Below, you’ll find your readings for this week, along with discussion questions and a short devotional for you to enjoy at the end of the week.
This week, we will focus on the sixth and final part of God’s armor as outlined in Ephesians: The Sword of the Spirit (the Word of God)
Readings:
- Ephesians 6
- Judges 13-14
Devotional:
Readings: Ephesians 6 | Judges 13-14
Paul concludes his writings in Ephesians by pointing us to our only offensive weapon within the Armor of God: “The Sword of the Spirit—which is the Word of God.”
In Judges, Samson had incredible physical gifts, but he lacked the spiritual discipline to align his life with God’s truth. He lived by his impulses rather than by the sword of spiritual wisdom.
Our spiritual victory doesn’t come from our natural or physical strengths, but from knowing and wielding the Sword of the Spirit. By keeping God’s Word in our hearts, we cut through the enemy’s deceptions and stay the course that God has set for us!
Have you felt defenseless lately against the lies and schemes of the enemy? Take heart, and take up the sword of the Spirit—God’s Word—and use it in every moment of your spiritual battles.
Discussion Questions:
- What is one specific verse from Ephesians you can carry as a “sword” this week to fight against the lies of the enemy?
- How does reading the Bible change the way you fight your personal battles compared to relying on your own strength?
- Samson relied on his own might rather than God’s wisdom. What is one natural strength you have that you can intentionally surrender to God’s authority?
Dig Deeper
In spiritual warfare, we have one offensive weapon—the sword of the Spirit. What sword did Paul have in mind, and how do we use it to resist the enemy?
In this sermon from Antioch’s 2022 sermon series, “Resistible,” Pastor Andy Comer helps us armor up by taking up the Word of God!
We are praying for you as you dig into God’s Word this week!
