Connect the Dots | July | Week 1

Jesus’ own words tell us why He taught in parables: “Because the secrets of the kingdom of heaven have been given for you to know, but it has not been given to them.” (Matthew 13:11)

The “them” in this verse are those with hard hearts who rejected Jesus; those who wanted to see more signs and miracles but refused Jesus’ message. To you who have eyes to see, the parables are beautiful stories that teach powerful lessons about Jesus being the ONE way to God’s Kingdom!

The parable of the Good Samaritan is likely very familiar to each of us. Charities’ names are even inspired by it.

But knowing the parable and living the principle are different. When we read this parable, Jesus didn’t say to care only for people we like. Or only to people we agree with. Or only when we feel like it.

Jesus ended this parable—this lesson about God’s kingdom—reminding everyone to show mercy—undeserved kindness—to ALL others because of the mercy—we receive every single day from God!!

Luke 10:25-37
Let everyone retell the parable in their own words.

Look up Lamentations 3:22-23. Discuss this verse in connection with the parable.
