Connect the Dots | June | Week 4

Jesus’ own words tell us why He taught in parables: “Because the secrets of the kingdom of heaven have been given for you to know, but it has not been given to them.” (Matthew 13:11)

The “them” in this verse are those with hard hearts who rejected Jesus; those who wanted to see more signs and miracles but refused Jesus’ message. To you who have eyes to see, the parables are beautiful stories that teach powerful lessons about Jesus being the ONE way to God’s Kingdom!

The word talent can be used to mean a skill we have learned or do well; my talent is soccer, ballet, crochet, baseball, math, cooking, etc.

But talent can also mean a weight of money. In Biblical times, if I worked for about 20 years and piled all my money up on a scale, I would have about a talent of money (by weight)!

Though our parable looks at the financial meaning, it can be applied to our skills as well: No matter what God gives us—money or special skills—we can use it ALL to glorify God! And when we do, we share in our Master’s joy!

Matthew 25:14-30
