But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you. (John 14:26)
As we prepare our hearts for the arrival of Christmas during Advent, so Jesus was preparing the hearts of the disciples for the upcoming indwelling of the Holy Spirit. All they could think about was Him no longer being with them and the sadness they were feeling. Yet, Jesus was trying to communicate that it was best for Him to go, so the Holy Spirit could come and be with them at all times. The Spirit was to comfort, convict, and show us the will of the Father.
To remember something, we must first read or experience it. As believers, we should continually be reading God’s Word. The Spirit can then bring to mind His truths as we live out our daily lives. As we go about our day, He will communicate with us by His Spirit, through His still small voice. Our challenge is to recognize it and be willing to obey.
What an encouragement it is to know that the Holy Spirit will be our help, every step of the way!
Reflect:
– What in your life is drowning out the still small voice, making it difficult to hear from the Lord?
– What are some ways you can create space and stillness today for your heart can hear from Him? Enjoy that time in His presence!
Pray:
Dear Lord, show me how to make Bible reading a discipline in my life. Give me a soft heart to hear from you and obey your leading so I can become more like your Son. Amen.
