Devotion by Eric Norbut
“I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one will snatch them out of my hand. My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all; no one can snatch them out of my Father’s hand.” (John 10:28-29)
Jesus is the Father who will never leave.
When Isaiah prophesied about the coming Messiah, he called Him “Eternal Father“; not to be confused with God the Father, but to describe Jesus’s fatherly character toward us. Jesus is the eternal protector, the compassionate shepherd, the one who holds us secure forever.
In John 10, Jesus paints a picture of our unshakeable security in Him. We, His sheep, are held in His hand, and simultaneously in the Father’s hand. No external enemy can snatch us away. Not Satan with his accusations. Not the world with its temptations. Not death itself.
In fact, in John 10:27, Jesus says, “My sheep hear my voice, I know them, and they follow me.” When we hear Jesus’s voice and follow Him, submit our lives to Him, and give up the illusion of control, we gain ultimate security in His hand.
Unlike earthly fathers who eventually must let go, Jesus never will. His fatherhood has no end.
Reflect:
– Where in your life do you hear Jesus calling you to follow Him?
– What does it mean to you that no one can snatch you from Christ’s hand?
Pray:
God, I thank You that Jesus holds me securely in His hand. I want to hear His voice and follow Him. Amen.
